It is a frequent question in new clients, many of them confuse "maca gelatinized" with "maca flour", which although they have similarities (same raw material and appearance), they differ in the transformation process called gelatinization, a process that allows us to obtain a better final product. This may give us even more doubts, but let's review the subject calmly.
Maca or Lepidium meyenii, is an ancestral root that grows over 4000 meters of altitude in the Central Andes of Peru, it presents different varieties of ecotypes according to the color of its hypocotyl, the most common being: red, black and yellow. It has a wide range of health benefits, rich in minerals (copper, iron, calcium and zinc), in vitamins of group B and in substances with stimulating effects, being its most important invigorating and energetic contribution.
Gelatinization is a process in which the raw material is exposed to high contracted temperatures for a period of time. This "drying" process allows us to break the starch chains and achieve a powder product that can be consumed directly.
This process does not alter the nutrients, vitamins or minerals of maca, it only makes it friendlier in its consumption: it reduces the characteristic bitter taste, does not require cooking and has a high degree of assimilation and digestibility by the body.
It is a new way to consume maca, with a different texture and flavor, but with the same nutritional contributions. Its new powder form allows us to package it in presentations such as the capsule, making its consumption even more accessible, since you can take it with you when you need it. There is no record of side effects, on the contrary, it can be consumed continuously without generating bloating or constipation.
At PROMACA we have specialized in this transformation process, achieving an excellent product and being able to place maca gelatinized as our main product in the markets of Europe and North America, with greater emphasis on Canada. We also participated in the "CHFA - Canadian Health Food Association" fair in the city of Vancouver at the beginning of this year where we were able to share with the community the majesty of our ancestral roots.
